Elegy for Cello

Elegy for Cello

"I had recently recorded the score for the film Seven Years In Tibet, which included a short melodic fragment that I thought might be expanded, and which I shaped into the form of the present Elegy. The original version of the piece was for cello and piano, and several years later I decided to orchestrate it.  Yo-Yo Ma, who had been the soloist on the Tibet score, kindly agreed to record it.

Presenting this work in concert over the ensuing years has been, for me, a very moving and healing experience."
